Dunrobin Castle the Military ghost and a spooky cold feeling in the nursery and seamstress room

Dunrobin Castle was a fascinating place to visit and I really enjoyed the tour around the castle as they allowed access to so many rooms, my only disappointment was there strict rule on No photography. I suppose that most of castle is still home to family of Sutherland ancestry its understandable, however it would have been nice to photograph the areas  that I want to share with you where I encountered the over whelming spooky coldness and met the residing military ghost.

It is rumoured that in 15th century the earl of Sutherland captured a beautiful young girl from the Mackay clan after a battle and took her home to castle locking her in seamstress room next to the night nursery. He was desperate for her to agree to marry him but after constant refusal he came to room to find her trying to escape down a rope of sheets. In his rage it is said he drew his sword and cut the rope and she fell to her death at the foot of the tower. The little pic of seamstress room is from internet ( no camera photography ) but does no real justice as to what it felt like looking into it.

As I approached this room which you are only allowed to view from doorway I felt overwhelming feeling of dizziness and sickness, I stood for a long time looking into this room but my feeling was not of female but of male and I felt an overwhelming coldness come over me the longer I stood there. I was drawn in particular to black military jacket at back of picture with gold cuffs. Unfortunately I felt no female presence at all despite the “advertised ghost tale” the room may have a story to tell but I want to research who wore the military jacket and report on it later perhaps.

The ghost that I found resides in what is known as military room or is part of those who wore the uniforms that are displayed there, off this room is a small gentleman’s smoking room for master of house to retire to. With stunning  views  over gardens and approaching coastline and sea this was room I nearly wobbled in as I  was not expecting the overwhelming presence in room as I  looked at 5 military uniforms standing in front of me . Further research may take time so I will update later, but when I discussed with Dunrobins head curator/guide at end of my tour who we were and what we did he kindly allowed us to go back to military room and take few photographs for our research. He had curiously asked which room I thought haunted ,  ah I thought this was my point as a psychic to either shine or look stupid I decided to go for what we always do- honesty. We have never bought into the stories of commercialism and sightings and nor allow these to influence us .”Sadly I feel nothing much from your so called haunted room” I said or any young lady wondering the tower courtyard  however the uniform displayed  in Seamstress room and the uniforms ( 2 in particular ) in the military room make me feel awash with sickness. The room itself is not without incident either.

He nodded I could tell he was impressed as he answered its not made public but that room indeed was were most ghostly feeling/ activity had been reported .

Beautiful gardens

stunning views over North Sea@Sutherland

The nursery is a beautiful ornate room with furnishings to make any parent or nanny comfortable whilst their child played, stunning toys of old and a dolls house especially made for Countess of Sutherlands children .The room was childlike and peaceful but I felt slight discord at doors entrance a coldness. I couldn’t place the feeling at all and I lingered in room for a while as other visitors came and went. I was drawn to a painting / drawing on wall as you come into room of the inside of a church. I asked the guide where this church was or if she knew anything about the painting she said unfortunately she didn’t. I felt it strange choice of painting for inside of child’s nursery room and would loved to have taken picture to research it. Maybe they will ask us back one day and allow us to explore again but this time with my camera to hand.
