The Cross Keys Inn and Table No 42

After our short stop in Penicuik we arrived in Peebles, a thriving popular town bustling with visitors. Hungry we decided to make straight for the Inn. I have to say I was initially disappointed. Outside the façade of the Inn still looks historic, however inside there has been a lot of modernisation. Don’t get me wrong it is lovely but it does disturb the psychic atmosphere somewhat. However that disappointment was short lived. After wandering around the eating area for a few minutes, which was quite chilly in parts we looked for an area of the room which was away from any draughts. We soon found a spot in a warm recess area and drawn to table no 42. Within five minutes of sitting there the area began to feel chilly and I began to feel a little dizzy and almost a bit sea sick. We both did actually but maybe it was just perhaps we were hungrier than we had initially thought!

I did wonder where the cold air was coming from though there was no windows or doors opened nearby. I was attempting to tune into the area when a family arrived, and began moving the tables around beside us to accommodate their large party. They were chatting and greeting each other excitedly, clearly a celebration meet up. The atmosphere had now changed Oh well, maybe another time. We certainly could not mind the family celebrating because we would just have to come back on a different day and have another delicious pub lunch.
